Nomination

This is a unique facility for credit union members whereby if you are over 16 years of age, you can nominate someone to receive the property of your credit union accounts upon your death to a maximum of €27,000* and any remaining balance forms part of the members estate. It is a free service offered to our members.

Once completed a nomination is a legally binding, written instruction which overrides a will.

Filling in a nomination form is very simple and can be done at any time by calling into any of our branches. We encourage members to keep their nomination up to date.

*Increased on 22nd February 2024 from €23,000 to €27,000.

If you have completed a nomination form, your nominee/s will receive your credit union shares and insurance benefits (if any) up to €27,000 when you die.

A member can nominate anyone, family, or friends.

The nominated person(s) can receive the funds without the need for probate subject to a maximum of €27,000. Any balance over this sum is paid over to the deceased persons estate.

It is important that members review their nomination form regularly.

*A member cannot nominate an officer of St. Brigid’s Credit Union Ltd unless that person is a member of the officer’s family.

Yes, you can change your nomination at any time. Making a new nomination revokes all previous nominations.

A nomination becomes invalid if the member gets married or the person that has been nominated dies.

No. A nomination does not give the nominee authorisation to withdraw funds.

Yes, call into the office and a member of staff will be able to confirm whether you have completed a nomination and who your nominee is.
